Cindy S – LAP-BAND Surgery
In 2007 after battling with my weight my whole life I finally got serious and decided to have the lap band. I was borderline diabetic and my blood pressure was off the charts. At 300 lbs., I knew if I didn’t get control of my body then my young children would lose their mom.
After the surgery the weight came off slow, but every month I saw a loss. Several times I got stuck at one weight and couldn’t seem to move that number on the scale…..and it was at that point in 2010 I realized my band was a tool and not a cure. I tightened my band down, and started using it as it was designed to be used….I cleaned up my diet and found things to do other than eat that brought me great joy. Seven years after my surgery date I finally reached my goal weight. That was over two years ago and I am still maintaining that weight today. Am I cured? Absolutely not, but I do have the right tools with the band, exercise and a healthy diet to no longer be overweight.
The best advice I give people with weight issues today is make small goals and rewarded yourself when you reach them. Don’t obsess over the final weight ….one pound at a time…..slow and steady will get you there. It won’t happen over night, but the weight didn’t get there in one day, one week, or even a year. It took me seven years, but today I am happy to say I am perfectly healthy and on no medication and I’m at a normal weight for the first time in my life. You are worth the investment….so make it!
